A Dream Realized

Kathryn Bryce, Scotland’s captain, had her first taste of the qualifiers at the tender age of 18. The journey since then has been arduous, with Scotland falling just short of qualifying in 2015, 2018, 2019, and 2022. This year, however, Bryce led her team to a historic victory, a testament to years of hard work and perseverance.

The Journey of the Bryce Sisters

The Bryce sisters have been central figures in Scotland’s cricket journey, playing together in most of their international career. The semi-final match against Ireland saw them unbeaten at the crease. Kathryn expressed the emotional intensity of the journey, “It has been a tough day or so thinking about it knowing you can get there as we have the squad to do it and it almost makes it a bit harder to keep the emotions in check and to get through,”

Sarah Bryce reflected on their journey, “Scotland was created as a women’s team in 2000 and here we are in 2024 finally having gotten over the line. What a journey it has been. I feel so lucky to have done it alongside you as my sister. To experience many lows and finally have a crazy massive high,”

 Looking Forward

With their spot in the T20 World Cup secured, Scotland now faces their next challenge – the Qualifier tournament’s final against Sri Lanka. Captain Kathryn Bryce is determined to put the emotions of their historic qualification behind and focus on finishing the Qualifier in style.

This event, much like a fine aged scotch, has been a long time in the making. But as the sun rises on a new day, it brings with it the promise of a bright future for Scottish women’s cricket. The Bryce sisters, with their unwavering dedication and talent, have ensured that the world will be watching as Scotland makes its historic entry into the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
